Pet Laws in AL
Dog Bite Statute
Dog owners in Alabama are responsible for damages when their dog injures or bites a person. The person must be lawfully on the owners property when the injury occurs. Provoking the dog to attack is the only exception to the rule. The dog owner can use lack of knowledge if he does not know that the dog is vicious to defend their case and limit the actual expense of the damages.
Rabid Dog Stature
Owners in Alabama will be liable to damages of up to twice the normal fine if an individual is bitten by a pet that is known by the owner to have contracted Rabies or similar viral infection.
Note: The laws above are the most prominent/notable laws in this state and not a complete list.
